Dunkin Donuts are offerin...
Yep apparently the first ...
The Doughnut Man was quit...

Back in 1988 when I was 9 years old, my parents and my brother went on a 2 month trip around North America. While I can't remember what types of doughnut I had during that trip, I do remenber an incident in New York City that has left an indelible mark on my psyche. Clinging close to mum and dad, we approached a Dunkin' Donuts store behind a small group of 20 year olds. I overheard one them enthusiastically "And we looovvee doughnuts". It was a memorable moment, a memorable moment, but my search for the perfect doughnut did not start there...
Years later, I was re-introduced to the world of Doughnuts at the School Cafeteria, who stocked the fluffy goodness of the "Mr Donut" (then McCain I believe) Jam Ball doughnut (see review). Since then this doughnut has been an occasional indulgence, and indeed, the very inspiration for this site.
While a solid doughnut for day to day circumstances the Mr Donut Jam Ball does not compare to the Best Doughnut I have eaten so far. Having family in Malaysia, it's quite a quirk that one of my favourite doughnut stores is the Dunkin' Donuts store in KL's old airport. At least a decade ago I had what I think was the Vanilla Kreme Filled Donut with it's real chocolate topping, fluffy centre and gorgeous clear vanilla cream centre. To this point it is the very best.
However, I feel I have not even touched the surface. There are bakeries out there making their own, hawkers in Thailand selling sugar-dipped Patonko's for 2 baht, and middle eastern churros. And of course, Krispy Kreme - the giant conglomerate must be doing something right.
So please, submit your reviews, theres a hole world of Doughnuts out there!
