Premium Price - but a premium product?
LOCATION: 675 Glenferrie Road Victoria Australia
Browns Bakers of Distinction
PRICE: $3.00 AUD
When you pay a premium price, you expect a premium product. At $3 AUD, this doughnut comes in at the high end of the doughnut price range. And at that price I think it is reasonable to assume a better quality doughnut. The price also prompted this reviewer to use a knife and fork.
But unfortunently the Brown's Jam Doughnut does not quite stand up to my higher expectations. It comes beautifully presented in a Parisian styled chocolate brown paper bag. But first of all it looks decidedly average - it's a plain ball with a dreaded larger sugar crystal dusting. Not a good sign there.
Biting into the doughnut it is bready in texture. The jam has been very generously pumped into the middle. That could have been a problem if I wanted to eat this thing by hand. On the whole it was reasonable but at $3 you are subsidising the production of Brown's other fine products. Perhaps they should ditch their doughnut line and focus on bread (which looked great)
Would you buy a Daihatsu at Mercedes prices? I don't think so.
