A crispy brown outer. A thick and crunchy sugar-cinnamon crust. An airy, yet reasonably chewy centre. A generous size. It all adds up to a very good effort from this gourmet cake shop in Fitzroy's Smith Street. I knew once I stepped into the old-style store, with the chess-board lino floor that I was in for a bit of a treat.

This doughnut is large in size, easily outflanking the Mr Donut varieties, and one can tell that it is made with care. It has a wonderful fresh, cinnamon smell, and delivered a satisfying crunch upon my first bite. However, while tasting quite good (not too bready, not too sweet) I found that the dough was not as soft or chewy as I would have liked.
