Another mouthwatering visit to Cafe Gelateria today, resulted in the testing of a Ricotta Filled doughnut. Shaped like a pastie, this was certainly not your conventional doughnut, and this was certainly a pleasant change from the norm.
The doughnut, again looked well made, although perhaps a little too brown. The sugar crystals on the outside were not to my liking either - too large. Smaller grains please. The ricotta filling looked a bit like Tofu/Beancurd. Not the most appetising culinary sight going around...
However in the interests of open-mindedness I was prepared to over look this, and concentrate on the taste, which, as you would expect was quite good.
A crunchy outer bite led to a smooth, creamy middle, which complemented the texture of the dough quite well. Not to sweet either, it was just right. A lighter dough, smaller sugar grain and a less tofu-like finish on the filling, and we are looking at top marks here!
