Good, but it exposes Krispy Kreme weaknesses

As you should know by now I am a huge fan of the Apple Cinnamon flavour combination. The Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Apple filled doughnut is a competitor to the Dunkin Doughnuts Apple doughnut and unfortunently for Krispy Kreme, this is the doughnut that I will be comparing it with. While a good doughnut it just doesn't quite stack up to my strict marking standards.
First of all the appearance of this doughnut is a little disapointing. The first thing you notice is the lack of the Krispy Kreme trademark glaze. Instead there is a light dusting of cinnamon-sugar. Unfortunently for Krispy Kreme the lack of glaze exposes their yeast-raised dough as being a bit bland, heavyis and generally not quite sweet enough - surprisingly below par I'm afraid. You pick up the doughnut, and it's not quite as feather light as the Dunkin doughnut version.
As for the sweet apple syrup filling, this is also a fraction disapointing, as the apple flavour is a little too understated. How does the combination come together - it's certainly not too bad, and would be very nice with a coffee, but it's certainly not up with the Dunkin Doughnuts apple. With a sweeter filling, a reworking of the dough and perhaps a heavier dusting of cinnamon sugar, higher marks will be attained.
