Now this is a cakey doughnut I can get used to! With a crispy outer shell and a distinctively buttery (the sour cream effect) and more thickly textured centre this is one mean doughnut.




I was seriously impressed - and that's saying something given my dislike for the cakey doughnut. I find the rustic, spare-type appearance of this doughnut particularly appealing and it serves a functional purpose as well - the extra lumps and scrapes allow the glaze more surface area to grip onto (much like the cruller), and therefore provide more crunch. And this provides a contrast to the soft yellow cake inside. An almost perfect combination.
